There is still one frontier that remains wide open: experience innovation. This is the only type of business innovation that is not imitable, nor can it be commoditized, because it is born from the specific needs and desires of your customers and is a unique expression of your company’s DNA. Yet the design of an experience is often overlooked in the rush to market.

  1. Totally agree! One one hand, products and services became commoditised, and companies are now competing solely on price; one the other hand, consumers, more than ever before are engaged to products and services on an emotional level. The conjunction of both trends reinforces the fact that companies need to innovate by providing consumers with engaging experiences.

    Hence the extraordinary growth of practices such as service design in the past years.

  2. A favorite quotation of mine on leadership came from Peter Drucker who said “Checking the results of a decision against its expectations shows executives what their strengths are, where they need to improve, and where they lack knowledge or information. .” Many top managers in the United States need a refresher course on accountability.
